Completed medical school in New Zealand in 1981, followed then by working in hospitals around New Zealand as a junior doctor (unaccredited resident). Undertook General Surgical Training from 1987-1991 (Auckland Regional Scheme).
First consultant position was as a Lecturer in Surgery, 1991-1992 at Auckland Hospital. This was followed by Transplant Surgical Fellowship training in the United States (University of Alabama, Birmingham,1992-1994) and Canada (London, Ontario, 1994-1995).
Then commenced my second consultant position as a Transplant Surgeon(Liver & Kidney), in 1995 in Sydney, Australia, which I have held for over 20 years.

Committee work at regional and national levels -culminating in guideline publication for organ donation and transplantation
Medicolegal advisory roles for over 10 years
Mentoring of medical students and trainees
Membership of an Editorial Board for IGI Global
Membership of International Transplant Societies
Clinical Resource Officer for the Australian Organ & Tissue Authority for 6 years - including undertaking Social Media for advocacy purposes
